"Micro-Macro and Rheology in Sheared Granular Matter"
Soil, made up of countless interacting grains is a perfect example of granular materials. When soil is sheared, the flow is confined to narrow regions called flowing zones. The focus of my talk is the link between microscopic properties and the (tangible) macroscopic bulk behavior. I will present how various particle (eg. friction, cohesion) and system (external shear-rate and gravity) properties affect the flow behavior of granular materials.
