"From Spin Glasses to Optimization Problems "
I will present an introduction to the results that have been recently obtained in constrained optimization problems using the statistical mechanics of spin glasses. After presenting the general results I will describe the problem of disease spreading and of targeted immunization of complex social networks.
BRIEF ACADEMIC/EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
In the last four years, during my graduation and PhD, I have been working on spin glass models on random networks. The main research was performed on the analysis of the critical fluctuations, using a perturbative loop-expansion around the Bethe-Peierls approximation (also known as cavity method). The theoretical results were confirmed by extensive numerical simulations using powerful message-passing algorithms.
